Things From Before - Allied

Before I started this blog I was posting my WWII stuff at This 28mm Life so there is a lot of 20mm WWII that hasn't made it to here. Click the link for more pics and details on what I was hoping to achieve and my reasoning making certain choices.

So, here's a bunch of Allied stuff that I've made during the past few years:
I started collecting 8th Army using plastics (Italeri of Esci - I'm unsure) but within weeks AB released their own 8th Army. The figures below are the very first AB 8th Army ever painted in the world. I got a world exclusive because I bought the very first batch that were cast by Eureka Miniatures.

Some armour: The M3 Honey's are from Plastic Soldier Company (PSC), the 2pdr's and Dingo are resin casts.

These Matilda II's and Vicker's light tank are  resin casts. These were exceptionally bad to paint due to the massive amount of release agent used for the casting. Really, really bad. Each model was washed & scrubbed multiple times had several undercoats and paint jobs followed by stripping. The only thing that solved the problem was when I used a heavy duty auto spray primer. It's a shame because it has really tainted my view as to ordering from a good supplier (I won't name them).

My late war British Infantry are a mix of PSC and AB. They go well together. The PSC lack a bit of detail but a single box can make up the bulk of a platoon. The AB give them a bit of variety, heavy weapons options, and add a lot of character.

I have two Fireflies to go with the Cromwell's to make up a couple of troops. I have enough models to make a third troop but they're still waiting to be made.
Two White Scout Cars - These are not easy to get these days. They're resin and come from Early War Miniatures. They're very nice - maybe a little on the small (1/76) side but still nice models.
The Dingo is also a resin cast from EWM.
My carrier section. The buildings in the background are from Plasticraft. They look nice on the table even if they are a bit too neat and tidy. The beauty of these is that they're pre-printed and it took one afternoon of cutting & gluing and I had a completed French village ready to go!
U.S. stuff:
I don't have all that much and half of it will be shared with the British. Really I have a bunch of M4 Sherman's and M3 Stuarts that I bought pre-made by Uncle Les who is a member of my club. Because of this, I haven't taken many pics. Besides that, I only seriously started collecting U.S. troops just before I started this blog.

My main U.S. collecting has been infantry. I started with Italeri plastic and, while I do like the figures, they're hard to get and pretty limited in weaponry. Finding the correct pallet for painting was something I initially found difficult.

After painting up some Italeri and getting the pallet correct, I then decided to go with AB figures. They do look nice but they don't really mix with the Italeri which are a bit taller. Whatever... I have a platoon of both.

I also had a platoon of Valiant U.S. Infantry. Like the Valiant German's I had, these figures are great and one single box supplies all you need for a standard platoon including heavy weapons. The problem with them is size. They're too big for 1/72 and too small for 28mm.  Like the Germans', I sold these figures which was a real shame because they are a really great set of figures.

So that's some of the Allied stuff that I already had prior to the start of this blog. There is more but I haven't any pics to share.

Cheers!
